What We Do
Southwark Alliance exists to make Southwark a better place to live, to learn, to work, to have fun in.
We are responsible for helping partners work together to achieve this goal. To do this, we:
- Set the overall vision for the future of the borough Community Strategy Act to promote change and build on the creativity within all sectors of the community. Click here for a pdf version.
- Agree goals and targets, and prioritise work and key decisions.
- Take forward and problem-solve the 'big' issues around regeneration, crime, health, education, employment and environment Priority Themes
- Negotiate and influence Government departments and other agencies
- Influence and help co-ordinate theme based and regeneration partnerships.
One major focus of our work is to tackle the unacceptable levels of poverty and social exclusion in the borough. This affects particular families, communities and neighbourhoods.
Through our Neighbourhood Renewal work we are striving to close the gap between the most deprived neighbourhoods, the rest of the borough and the country as a whole. It includes work in some of our most deprived areas, and thematic programmes to tackle the challenges we face in education, health, crime and employment.
We are targeting the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund to help bring about change.
The Southwark Alliance Annual Report tells you what has happened during the period 2007-2008. We have set our sights on making measurable improvements in the - to build cohesion across our diverse communities, improve health, reduce unemployment, raise educational achievement, improve housing and environment, and reduce crime and fear of crime.
