Community Councils
To promote democratic renewal, Southwark Council launched eight Community Councils in April 2003. Each community council area comprises of three electoral wards.
There are community councils for:

- Borough and Bankside
- Camberwell
- Dulwich
- Nunhead and Peckham Rye
- Peckham
- Rotherhithe
- Walworth
Community Councils have decision-making powers for local planning issues, environment, and community safety. They also provide an opportunity for local residents to discuss issues and developments in their locality.
Community Councils meet monthly.
