LINks
The Southwark LINkA Local Involvement Network of people and organisations with an interest in health and social care was set up in Southwark in the Summer of 2008. The LINk was established and is supported by a Host organisation following the completion of a competitive tendering process run by Southwark Council. The LINk carries out a set of activities in order to promote and support the involvement of local people in the commissioning, provision and scrutiny of local health and social care services. These activities include:
- Promoting and supporting people in the commissioning, provision and scrutiny of local care services.
- Enabling people to monitor and review the commissioning and provision of local care services
- Obtaining the views of people about their needs for and their experiences of local care services and
- Presenting peoples views and making reports and recommendations about how care services could be improved to those responsible for commissioning providing managing and scrutinising those services
Creating the Southwark LINk
The LINk itself is set up and is supported by a host organisation following a procurement process run by Southwark Council. The host organisation is responsible for ensuring that the LINk is representative of Southwark’s diverse range of health and social care users.
The council’s work to procure a LINk host has been inclusive of interested stakeholder groups and forums and there is crossover between the membership of SLIC and the work that is being undertaken to appoint a Host. Work with these stakeholders has included:
- A large stakeholder event in October to raise awareness of the forthcoming LINk
- Briefings and presentations to community groups, forums and partnership boards to raise awareness of the forthcoming LINk
- Monthly meetings between January and March 2008 of an advisory panel of representatives from stakeholder groups and forums. The advisory panel provided input to the development of the host specification and elected representatives to the be involved in the council’s work to evaluate the tenders submitted by prospective host organisations
Notes of the advisory panel’s meetings are archived in the useful documents section below:-
