Independence And Wellbeing For Life Strategic Board
About the Plan
Independence and wellbeing for life is Southwark's five year plan to improve the quality of life for older people.
The plan will be delivered over the next five years by the Southwark Alliance in partnership with older people themselves and the agencies that provide them with services.
Independence and wellbeing for life was developed with the active participation of older people and other stakeholders with an intensive consultation process held from June 2005 to January 2006.
During these consultations we talked with older people about their needs. We listened to what they had to say about what really mattered and used this feedback to produce the strategy's key actions.
A multi-agency working group has been established to co-ordinate the implementation of the Independence and Wellbeing for Life plan.
We will work on the following four key action areas:
- Actively enjoying life - a positive approach to ageing.
- Independence and safety in the home and community.
- Economic wellbeing and opportunities in later life.
- Health and social care that older people need.
As a result of action taken under this plan we want older people to:
- Plan for the future and have positive attitudes and approaches to ageing.
- Take action to prevent problems before they occur.
